BEwell: Building Engagement and
Well-being through Electronic Life-like Learning
Imagine your university becoming known not only for academic performance but also for helping students flourish as they progress from day one to graduation. Regardless of their major in medicine, engineering, business, law or humanities, all students deserve to explore and learn:
How to understand themselves and form their identity.
How to manage stress before it becomes overwhelming.
How to build meaningful relationships.
How to stay engaged when motivation fades.
And mainly, how to create a life that is healthy, purposeful, and worth living.
These are not soft skills. They are life skills that strengthen learning, academic performance, transition into future careers, and everyday life.
BEwell is Uniwellsity’s key wellbeing education course for students. It is a semester-long educational experience consisting of 13 carefully designed lessons built around ten evidence-based foundations of well-being:
-
Positive emotions
-
Engagement
-
Relationships
-
Meaning
-
Accomplishment
-
Physical health
-
Mindset
-
Environment
-
Economic security
-
Authenticity
The curriculum also includes dedicated lessons on stress management and nervous system regulation, followed by a final integrative reflection with a trained wellbeing educator that helps students connect everything they have learned and translate it into everyday life.
Students learn through an engaging combination of short educational videos, guided reflection, practical activities, conversations with pedagogical avatars, and regular discussions led by trained university teachers and well-being educators. Every lesson combines scientific evidence with practical application so that students do not simply understand well-being. They begin to practice it.
BEwell was created by researcher and assistant professor Jana Koci, Ph.D. author of the academic book Well-Being and Success for University Students, together with an international team of psychologists, educators, researchers, university teachers, technology specialists, and students. Every part of the experience has been developed, reviewed, and continuously refined through scientific evidence, educational practice, and real student feedback.
The project has received repeated international recognition for its innovation and educational impact. In 2025, the European Union selected BEwell among the ten most innovative and sustainable educational projects in Europe, reflecting its scientific quality, ethical design, and potential to transform well-being education in higher education.
Knowledge alone has never been enough to prepare students for life. The universities that will shape the future are those that teach students not only what to think, but also how to live well.
